TAQA (Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance) Assessor Course

These City and Guilds level 3 qualifications are suitable for anyone assessing vocational learning.  The TAQA qualifications units are listed below.

They replace the A1 and D32/33 assessor qualifications

Each qualification will start with a one day training workshop followed by one-to-one work with your assessor including observation, discussion and gathering workplace evidence at a time to be arranged.  This follow-up assessment can be completed in one day in your workplace.  There are no exams or written assignments to complete.

Update Training

If you already have an assessor qualification (A1, D32, D33) you can update this by attending the one-day workshop.  You will receive a certificate of attendance and a workbook to support a review of best practice in your workplace.    This provides evidence of CPD but does not provide you with a new qualification.  Cost:  £60

TAQA Assessor Courses:

  • Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment –     Cost:  £350
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment –     Cost: £700
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement –     Cost: £700
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement  –    Cost: £800

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is the replacement for the A2 qualification and Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement replaces the A1 assessors award that has been required to assess NVQ qualifications in the past

Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (1 unit, 3 credits)

A knowledge-only Award for those who need to know about assessment but who are not currently practising e.g. aspiring assessors or quality managers. This award can be achieved by participating in the one-day workshop and is assessed by professional discussion with your course tutor.  This award has one unit:

Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)

Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (2 units, 9 credits)

For those who assess the achievement of competence in a work environment using as a minimum the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion.  They may also us: use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and RPA.  This award can be achieved by attending the one-day workshop followed by an assessment visit to your workplace.  On this day you will be assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of workplace evidence will be assembled.  To achieve this you have to demonstrate assessment of at least 2 learners.  This Award has 2 units:-
Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
Unit 2 Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (6 credits)

Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (2 units, 9 credits)

For those who assess achievement in vocationally-related situations e.g. classrooms or workshops and who use at least 3 of the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL.  This award can be achieved by attending the one-day workshop followed by an assessment visit to your workplace.  On this day you will be assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of workplace evidence will be assembled. To achieve this you have to demonstrate assessment of at least 2 learners.   This Award has 2 units:-
Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
Unit 3: Assessing Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding (6 credits)

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (15 credits)

For those who need to be qualified to use all of the above listed assessment methods.   This certificate can be achieved by attending the one-day workshop followed by an assessment visit to your workplace.  On this day you will be assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of workplace evidence will be assembled.  To achieve this you have to demonstrate assessment of at least 2 learners using a range of assessment methods including observing learners in a work environment and assessing their knowledge.  This Certificate contains all three units of the two Awards:-
Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
Unit 2 Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (6 credits)
Unit 3 Assessing Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding (6 credits)
